With the help of family members, friends, research on the Web and some interresting personal websites, I was able to trace back my roots up to Jean Prou. My family tree now has 63053 individuals.
Most of the Proulx family genealogical information on this site, comes from one of the six Dictionaries published by Mr. Antonin Proulx. He made some research on six of the Prou ancestors that arrived here at the begining of the colonization.
Here is a list of these ancestors. First the ancestor, then the number of direct descendants in my database and how many generations they are spreaded over.
- Jean Prou(st) and Jacquette Fournier
16527 direct descendants spread out over 14 generations. - Jean Prou and Catherine Pinel
2025 direct descendants spread out over 10 generations. - Jacques Prou dit LePoitevin and Marie Jeanne Pilon
109 direct descendants spread out over 9 generations. - Pierre Prou and Marie Gauthier
25 direct descendants spread out over 11 generations. - Jean Preaux (Proulx after the 2nd generation) and Catherine Fleury
0 direct descendants spread out over 0 generations. - Louis René Proulx (arrived around 1800) and Marguerite Brunet
0 direct descendants spread out over 0 generations.
In the winter of 2003, Mr. Antonin Proulx and Mr. Pierre Proulx wrote a very interessting article in the "L'Ancêtre" magazine, published by "La Société de généalogie de Québec", regarding the outcome of their research about Jean Prou(st). This article explains their approach to trace the origins of our ancestors in France.
In the fall of 2004, they issue a second article, this time regarding the close relatives of Jean Prou(st).
In February 2008, Mr. Pierre Proulx kindly sent me copies of these two articles with his approval to display them on my site. You can now view them using the following links :
In april 2008, Mr. Pierre Proulx, sent me a copy of the complete work of Mr. Antonin Proulx. This document of 251 pages is the result of his genealogical work over the last 15 years. This document is divided in two parts: the dictionary and the annexes.
The ditcionnary : six detailed reports showing the descendants, grouped by generations, of each of the six ancestors.
The annexes : 5 annexes diplaying biographies, a list of other "Proulx" with no known descendants, a list of "Proulx" still not link to any family line, a list of individuals considered important and a list acts written by notaries during the French regime.
This documents are accessible using the following links. A special thank you to Mr. Pierre Proulx or his immense generosity.
- The Proulx Family dictionnary
- Pierre Prou descendants
- Jean Prou(st) descendants
- Jean Prou descendants
- Jean Préaux descendants
- Jacques Prou descendants
- Louis-René Prou descendants
To these documents, I added the results of my researches and created new documents. As of now, only the document about Jean Prou(st) is completed. The other documents will be added as soons as they are completed.
The data displayed on this site are purely informative, they should never be used as reference since they are not always from first hand source. You should always verify any information for yourself. If you should find any errors or you can add to my information, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail. The data in this website is certainly not complete, nor will it ever likely be, due to the nature of genealogical research. I am always happy to receive feedback from my visitors, because on top of helping me, you are also helping all the other researchers.
Happy hunting!!!
Proulx Family Association
Good news, the Proulx Familly Association is now a reality. A group of Proulx famillies the region of Rimouski have taken the initiative of the creation of this association. A request to register the name 'L'Association des Familles Proulx d'Amériques' was accepted by the 'régistraire des entreprises du Québec' on May 12th, 2006.
After posting a little survey about a Proulx Familly Assoction still non existing, Mr Langis Proulx, acting treasurer of the new association, contacted me to let me know of the newly created family association.
Everyone who would like to obtain more information about The Proulx Family Assocition, would like to become a member or even become a member of the first administrative council, can contact Mr Langis Proulx at the following email address : cbrisso@globetrotter.net
